- Raffles Education Corporation Ltd (“RafflesEducationCor p”), thelargest private education group in the Asia Pacific region, announced that ithas received approval from the Hebei Province Education Bureau to establishLangfang Oriental College in Langfang, Hebei Province, China.
- The Group will invest RMB3m, approximately S$621,000 into the newcollege over the next five years, and the first intake is expected to commencein January 2009. The college will offer Advanced Diplomas in Fashion Design,Multimedia Design, Accounting, Business and Management, Aviation Services andLogistics. With the addition of this new college, the Group currently operatesthree universities and 24 colleges across nine countries in the Asia-Pacificregion.
- The new college is not expected to contribute significantly to theGroup’s financial results in FY2009. Sembcorp Marine Ltd - PPL Shipyard secured rig orders to build two jack up rigsfor Egyptian offshore drilling company
- PPL Shipyard, a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine, has secured a contractfrom Egyptian Offshore Drilling Company, S.A.E. (“EODC”) for the constructionof two units of jack-up rigs for a total contract value of around US$425m.
- The pair of high performance jack-up rigs will be built based on PPLShipyard’s proprietary design Pacific Class 375 mobile offshore drilling unitand proprietary components. It will be equipped to drill high pressure and hightemperature wells at 30,000 feet whilst operating in 375 feet of water. It willhave accommodation with full catering and amenities for 120 persons.
- The first unit is scheduled to be delivered at the end of the 4Q10while the second unit will be delivered by end of the 1Q11. On deliveries,these rigs will be contracted to EODC for their offshore operations in Egypt .
- The contract is not expected to have any material impact on the nettangible assets and earnings per share of Sembcorp Marine for FY08.
